Course
Description
Participants will be instructed in functional anatomy and biomechanics of the trunk and spine with emphasis on proper core stabilization. Differentiation of compensatory patterns consistent with Fibromyalgia and proper recruitment of the inner unit (deep abdominals, pelvic floor, multifidi and diaphragm) will be covered. Indications and Contraindications for individuals with Fibromyalgia will be reviewed with the application of Pilates equipment and Pilates Mat repertoire.
Objectives
- Develop an understanding of the fundamentals and principles of the Pilates method.
- Participants will be educated briefly on the pathology of fibromyalgia, as well as the indications and contra-indications for working with this population.
- Participants will learn screening techniques and program design ideas for the client who suffers from fibromyalgia.
- Safely prepare equipment and instruct clients in a Pilates based workout.
- Participants will be able to utilize a variety of home exercises and core stabilization activities to assist with managing a client with fibromyalgia
- Participants will be able to demonstrate the use of options and modifications to the original repertoire for clients with fibromyalgia.

Gabrielle Shrier graduated with a B.S. in Kinesiology from UCLA and holds a Master's degree in Physical Therapy from USC. Gabrielle has a strong background in education as she served as the continuing education director at Davies Medical Center and was a member of the continuing education committee for the Golden Gate District of the APTA. She spent the early part of her career specializing in neurologic disorders and is NDT certified. She has completed a comprehensive course in the Australian approach of manual therapy and is certified in Pilates and Gyrotonic®. Gabrielle practices Women’s Health and CranialSacral Therapy. She has spent the past 3 years integrating Pilates and her background in physical therapy with her love of sports. She has been practicing physical therapy since 1994 and has been a member of the APTA for over 10 years.
Dawn-Marie Ickes holds a B.S. in Biology from Loyola Marymount University and a Masters in Physical Therapy from Mount Saint Mary's College. She is certified in Pilates and was elected to the first national board of directors for the Pilates Method Alliance in 2001, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and maintenance of educational standards in the Pilates profession. She is a licensed physical therapist who has been teaching workshops in the areas of pediatrics, prosthetics and woman's health for the past 6 years in addition to developing educational programs for health care professionals integrating Pilates and rehabilitation. Her clinical experience includes Pre and Post natal rehabilitation, pediatric orthopedics, neurology and sports medicine. She has been published in a variety of Physical Therapy related publications and presented nationally since 1997. She is an active member of the APTA and continues to sit on the Board for the PMA.
Allyson L. Cabot holds a B.S. in Physical Therapy from CSULB, and a B.S. in Kinesiology from UCLA. She is certified in both Pilates and Gyrotonic®. For the past 6 years, she has worked to develop educational programs for health care professionals integrating Pilates and rehabilitation. She brings to her practice a unique background in mind-body fitness, drawing upon much of her own personal experiences in sports and fitness. Allyson practices CranioSacral therapy in addition to her diverse background in manual orthopedics, women's health and neurological rehabilitation. She has been practicing physical therapy for over12 years and is an active member of the APTA.
Roger Gonzalez Hibner finally settled in Los Angeles after being invited to join the Lewitzsky Dance Company in 1991. He left his native Mexico to attend the University of Texas at Austin where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. After graduation he moved to New York where he worked with the Solomons Company/Dance and the Milton Myers Dance Company. He is currently involved with several projects that include playing and learning with his son Adrian and with the PostHouse Dance Group. Roger is a certified Pilates instructor who has been studying under Romana Kryzanowsca since 1995. He has worked with and taught master classes for dancers, Pilates teachers, physical therapists and many others. You can find him in the Winsor Pilates video series.
CEUs/Contact Hours
A certificate of attendance will be presented to each participant for 7.0 contact hours. The California Education Connection is recognized by the NATA Board of Certification to provide continuing education for certified athletic trainers. Core Conditioning and the California Education Connection are recognized by the American Council on Exercise as a Continuing Education Specialist – 0.7 ACE CECs (Number: CA65825). This course is also approved by the Pilates Method Alliance. The NSCA Certification Commission Executive Council has approved CEUs for CSCS and NSCA-CPT certificants attending this event for 0.7 CEUs. The National Academy of Sports Medicine has approved this course for 0.7 CEUs.
Early Bird Registration Deadline
The registration deadline for all courses is three weeks prior to the start of the course. All registrations must be postmarked or received three weeks prior to the course date, if received after the registration deadline, a $25.00 Late Fee will be applied to the registration fee.

For every 5 people that sign up for the same seminar, we will give that group one complimentary spot.
How Do We Sign-Up and Qualify for the Free Spot?
In order to qualify for this discount, we must receive all six completed registration forms with the appropriate payment for the five spots. If you want to mail in the completed forms, you must mail all six forms in the same envelope. If you want to fax in the forms, you must fax all six forms at the same time.
Please note that there will be no exceptions granted. We must receive everything at once in order to process these registration forms under the group discount policy.
Refund
and Cancellation Policies
The California Education Connection reserves the right to cancel or reschedule this seminar due to an insufficient number of registrants or other unforeseen circumstances. Under these circumstances, seminar fees will be returned in full to the registrant. Please note that the California Education Connection is not responsible for hotel, airline or other expenses incurred.
All cancellations must be submitted in writing. For cancellations received 14 days before the seminar date, the seminar fee will be returned less a $25.00 administrative fee. Within 14 days of the seminar, no refunds will be made, although the seminar fee is transferable to another person for the same seminar date.
