Pre-Natal Course Description:
This course is designed for Pilates instructors and Healthcare practitioners. Participants will learn to identify typical as well as atypical postural changes, muscular imbalances, and physiological changes consistent with the pregnant body and design client specific programs addressing these issues. Current ACOG (American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology) guidelines for exercise during pregnancy are reviewed.

- Participants will be able to utilize a variety of home exercises and core stabilization activities to assist with managing a pregnant client.

Post-Partum Description:
On this second day, the course will cover the important anatomical and physiological changes, which continue following labor and delivery and how Pilates can assist with restoring the core during the body's recovery. Deepen your understanding of the postpartum body, how to isolate and retrain the pelvic floor, deep abdominals, and how to help clients re-connect to their core.
Post-Partum Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify anatomical and physiological changes, which continue following labor and delivery.
- Participants will be instructed on how Pilates can assist with restoring the core during the body's recovery.
- Participants will increase their understanding of how the body changes during the postpartum period, how to isolate and retrain the pelvic floor, deep abdominals, and how to help clients re-connect to their core.

Speaker(s):
Allyson L. Cabot is co-owner of Core Conditioning. She holds a B.S. in Physical Therapy from CSULB, and a B.S. in Kinesiology from UCLA. She is certified in Gyrotonic®, and PMA Gold Certified in Pilates. For the past 8 years, she has worked to develop educational programs for health care professionals integrating Pilates and rehabilitation. Allyson brings to her practice a unique background in mind-body fitness, drawing upon much of her own personal experiences in sports and fitness. She practices CranioSacral therapy in addition to her diverse background in manual orthopedics, women's health and neurological rehabilitation. She has been practicing physical therapy for over12 years and is an active member of the APTA.
Dawn-Marie Ickes holds a B.S. in Biology from Loyola Marymount University and a Masters in Physical Therapy from Mount Saint Mary's College. She is certified in Pilates and was elected to the first national board of directors for the Pilates Method Alliance in 2001, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and maintenance of standards in the Pilates profession. She is a licensed physical therapist who has been teaching workshops in the areas of pediatrics, prosthetics and woman's health for the past 5 years in addition to developing educational programs for health care professionals integrating Pilates and rehabilitation. Her clinical experience includes Pre and Post natal rehabilitation, pediatric orthopedics, neurology and sports medicine. Her diverse clinical background and personal experience in athletics has helped Dawn-Marie to have a more personal connection in mechanics of body movement and sports medicine. She has published articles in a variety of Physical Therapy related publications and presented nationally since 1997. Her latest project is a Pilates video for the MS Foundation due to be released in July 2003. She is an active member of the APTA.
Gabrielle Shrier is a co-owner of Core Conditioning, a multi-disciplinary studio integrating Pilates, Gyrotonic®, Feldenkreis®, with leading edge physical therapy techniques. She graduated with a B.S. in Kinesiology from UCLA and holds a Master's degree in Physical Therapy from USC. Gabrielle has a strong background in education and Women's Health as she served as the continuing education director at Davies Medical Center and was on the nominating committee member for the Bay Area. She is NDT certified and has completed a comprehensive course in the Australian approach of manual therapy and is certified in Pilates, Gyrotonic®, and CranialSacral Therapy. She has spent the past 3 years integrating Pilates and her background in physical therapy with her love of sports. She has been practicing physical therapy since 1994 and has been a member of the APTA for 10 years.
Cari Riis Stemmler is Co-Director of Teacher Training at Core Conditioning in Studio City, CA. Transitioning from her career as a professional dancer, Cari started teaching Pilates in 1997 in Los Angeles, CA. She has been a practitioner of Ashtanga, Hatha and Anusara yoga since 1996. Cari became a Certified Fitness Trainer in 2002 and now brings together the disciplines of dance, Pilates, yoga, and functional training to cultivate a well-rounded approach to fitness and wellness. A PMA Gold certified instructor, Cari currently teaches comprehensive Pilates courses throughout the country as a faculty member for Balanced Body University under the tutelage of Nora St. John. As well, Cari teaches continuing education courses with the fantastic women of Core Conditioning. She holds a B.A. degree in Cross-cultural Communication from the University of Minnesota, and currently resides in Minneapolis, MN. Early Registration Deadline
The Early Registration deadline is three weeks prior to the start of the course. If your registration is received after the deadline, a $25.00 Late Fee will be automatically applied to the registration fee. Group Discounts

How Do We Sign-Up and Qualify for the Free Spot?
In order to qualify for this discount, we must receive all six completed registration forms with the appropriate payment for the five spots. If you want to mail in the completed forms, you must mail all six forms in the same envelope. If you want to fax in the forms, you must fax all six forms at the same time.
Please note that there will be no exceptions granted. We must receive everything at once in order to process these registration forms under the group discount policy.
Refund and Cancellation Policies:
California Education Connection reserves the right to cancel this seminar due to an insufficient number of registrants. Under these circumstances, a full refund in the form of a check will be addressed and mailed to the registered participant. Please note that California Education Connection is not responsible for any hotel, airline or other expenses incurred.
All cancellations by registered participant must be dated and submitted in writing. For cancellations received 14 days or more before the seminar date, the registration fee will be returned less a $50.00 administrative fee. A refund in the form of a check will be mailed to the registered participant.
Within 14 days of the seminar, no refunds will be made. California Education Connection reserves the right to change a course date, location or instructor. If the seminar is either interrupted or canceled by an act of nature, war, or any issue beyond the control of California Education Connection, no refund will be issued.
