Course Description:

This two-day course is designed to provide physical and occupational therapists with a specialty in pediatrics with information and instruction on Kinesiology Taping methods. Kinesiology Taping is a method of treatment for musculoskeletal and myofascial disorders and edema control. This tape can be used during physical activity and in conjunction with many therapies. Attendees will gain insight into theory and taping techniques for a variety of concerns, including joint instability, muscular weakness, abnormal alignment, pain and inflammation. Discussion on the use for the various diagnoses seen in the pediatric population and case presentation will be included.

Kinesiology Therapeutic Tape (KT Tape) allows the affects of therapy treatment to be continued through proprioceptive stimulation even when the patient is at home. Fundamental Techniques would include basic product use education, handling skills and common mistakes. It will also include muscle techniques such as: Glutes / Gastroc / Scapula / Lower trap / Paraspinals / Bicep / Tricep / Forearm musculature. This class is a progression of KT Tape techniques for use in specific pediatric diagnosis such as drop foot, cortical thumb, torticollis, CP, club foot, developmental delay, etc.

Objectives:
  • Determine what types of patient problems are appropriate for KT Tape
  • Administer KT Tape to reduce Edema
  • Administer KT Tape to facilitate muscle use
  • Administer KT Tape to Inhibit Muscle use
  • Administer KT Tape for Specific problems seen in Pediatrics.
  • Administer KT Tape for specific diagnostic categories such as torticollis, high tone problems, low tone problems & corrective muscle patterning.
  • Administer KT Tape for Drooling
  • Administer KT Tape for Brachial Plexus Facilitation
  • Administer KT Tape for Trunk stabilization

ATCs, OTRs & COTAs, PTs, PT Assistants & Aides, DCs, and other medical practitioners

Less than 50% of the contents of this course deals with evaluation; therefore, this course is open for registration to physical therapist assistants. There may be certain activities taught by law that cannot be performed by the physical therapist assistant.

CEUs/PDUs/Contact Hours:

A certificate of attendance will be presented to each participant for 15.0 contact hours. The Physical Therapy Board of California recognizes California Education Connection as an Approval Agency to Approve Providers of Continuing Competency Courses in California. This course is eligible for 1.5 CEUs. We are also recognized by the Board of Certification to provide continuing education for certified athletic trainers. Our BOC approved provider number is P2959. California Education Connection is an AOTA Approved Provider of continuing education.This course is eligible for 1.5 CEUs from the AOTA. The AOTA does not endorse specific course content, products, or clinical procedures. This course will also count toward the PDU requirement for OTRs / COTAs in the State of California.

Speaker:

Cindy Bailey, DPT, OCS, SCS, ATC, EMT, is a past Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice in the Dept. of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California and is currently Clinical Faculty at Mt. St. Mary’s Physical Therapy Doctorate program. She is the Director of Physical and Occupational Therapy at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital (LAOH) and the Administrator of the LAOH Sports Care Outreach and Education program.

Dr. Bailey continues in her private practice serving many care facilities across Los Angeles and consults outside the region. Cindy’s post graduate work has included an Advanced Residency at Kaiser West Los Angeles (KWLA) in Manual Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and a Fellowship at the Keck School of Medicine of USC in Medical Education Teaching and Learning. Her work at Orthopaedic Hospital has also taken her into the area of specialty care for patients with Hemophilia. Since 1997 Cindy has worked and traveled with the USC Ice Hockey team as their Certified Athletic Trainer and EMT.

Dr. Bailey is a sought after speaker and educator including opportunities with Orthopaedic care of the Hemophilic patient on a regional and world conference level, “Introduction to Sports Injury and Certified Athletic Training” at Pepperdine University and Santa Monica College, “Orthopaedic Manual Therapy Residencies” at Kaiser West Los Angeles and USC Physical Therapy School, Keck School of Medicine “How to Conduct a Musculoskeletal Evaluation”, and “Doc on the Field” as well as community classes for high school and Little League coaches. With her Certified Athletic Training and Sports Specialty backgrounds she has been an invited practitioner to assist with the Pan Am Games and several U.S. Olympic Teams. She has also acted as a consultant to the Chinese Government for facility and health care needs during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Recently she has been invited Medical Staff for the 2009 World Figure Skating Championships as well as the 2009 Macabbi Games held in Israel. Dr. Bailey has collaborated to author several chapters and articles on “Uses of Tape as a Medical Modality.” Due to her vast experience, she is considered one of the worlds’ leading instructors in Kinesio, Leuko and Sports Taping techniques. Currently she is instructing clinicians in the use of Kinesiology Therapeutic Taping.

Early Registration Deadline

The Early Registration deadline for all courses is three weeks prior to the start of the course. All registrations must be postmarked or received three weeks prior to the course date, if received after the registration deadline, a $25.00 Late Fee will automatically be applied to the registration fee.

How Do We Sign-Up and Qualify for the Free Spot?

In order to qualify for this discount, we must receive all six completed registration forms with the appropriate payment for the five spots. If you want to mail in the completed forms, you must mail all six forms in the same envelope. If you want to fax in the forms, you must fax all six forms at the same time.

Please note that there will be no exceptions granted. We must receive everything at once in order to process these registration forms under the group discount policy.

Refund and Cancellation Policies

California Education Connection reserves the right to cancel this seminar due to an insufficient number of registrants. Under these circumstances, a full refund in the form of a check will be addressed and mailed to the registered participant. Please note that California Education Connection is not responsible for any hotel, airline or other expenses incurred. All cancellations by registered participant must be dated and submitted in writing. For cancellations received 14 days or more before the seminar date, the registration fee will be returned less a $50.00 administrative fee. A refund in the form of a check will be mailed to the registered participant.

Within 14 days of the seminar, no refunds will be made. California Education Connection reserves the right to change a course date, location or instructor. If the seminar is either interrupted or canceled by an act of nature, war, or any issue beyond the control of California Education Connection, no refund will be issued.
